S.A. Country in Albury

Day 1

The players start their Championship today with their first and final training's with the teams. Coaches get to select starting 5, run through the plays and get the girls working again together after coming together the last time over 8 weeks ago.

most will have no problems running through the plays and remembering them, but some players were injured so will need a refresh.

14's start at 08:30
16's start at 10:30
18's start at 12:30

All trainings are 2 hours and are followed by another 90 minute session later in the day.

DAY 1....

Under 14 Girls.
Bianca and Jenna's side were able to get of to a great start and be up by a few at the half, but were unable to maintain the momentum and ended up going down by 20 points. 69 - 49 to the NSW Waratahs.
Jasmine and Nikeisha's team also had a loss by 25 to the Victorian Goldminers. The game almost similar to the other teams where they were close at the half and died in the later part of the game.
Both coaches mentioning the high amount of turnovers and missed opportunities on easy goals.

Under 14 Boys.
Lewis's team went down by 35 points, which was a touch disappointing but the team were just getting together and learning how each other plays the game. Lewis was as strong as normal, but with the new found opposition, his skills now need to step up to the opposition. Something Lewis is more than capable of.

Under 16 Girls
Rhianna's team also played the NSW Waratah's and what seems the theme of the day, were able to keep up to the half, and then feel were beaten. Turnover's and missed free throws killing the team.
Rhianna was a solid contributor and lead from the front.

Under 16 Boys.

Scores only for Bluey and Jack as I have not been able to get a update on how the boys went at this stage, going down to NSW Waratahs 69 - 42.
Jack scored 5 points and I am unsure what Bluey did....

More to come on this one....

Under 18 Girls

Tegan and Shannon had a very good win over New Zealand beating them 83 - 54. Both the girls were great contributors to the team.
Shannon had some top quality inside moves and strong rebounds, while Tegan was valuable in the transition offence and also playing tough defence on her opponent.

Under 18 Boys.

Chad had what you could call a slow start to the game, being benched for the first quarter...but proved his worth with 20 points for the game and 5 3 pointers. Chad will no doubt be out to prove his worth even further in the next game.

The boys had a big loss but will look to erase that game and get the Championship started tomorrow when they play New Zealand Kea.

Day 2 to come.....
